Dr. Hendrik Snyders and Marianna Botes of the History Department, and Elmar du Plessis of the Department of Collections attended the National Conference of the SA Society for Cultural History (SASCH) from 18-19 October at the Naval Museum in Simon’s Town, where all three presented papers. The theme of the conference was Water, and delegates were taken on guided tours around Simon’s Town and on the frigate SAS Amatola. The Conference was attended by 32 delegates from around the country, as well as two delegates from the International Society for Cultural History (ISCH). During the conference, it was decided that the two societies would work closely together and that a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two societies will be compiled. Members will be welcome to attend the yearly conferences of each society and publish in the societies’ respective journals.
