Dr. Hannes Haasbroek
Dr Hannes Haasbroek was Head of the History Department at the National Museum in Bloemfontein. During his service at the Museum, he regularly contributed to scientific journals and newspapers and some of his short stories were published in magazines. His book on the life of famous soprano Cecilia Wessels, “Stem en legende”, was published in 2005 and his biography on Bram Fischer,”’n Seun soos Bram”, appeared in 2011. For the latter he received a sala award for non-fiction. In 2012, his short story, “By oulike mense op die platteland” won the Bloemfontein Writers Association’s annual writing competition. Even as a retired historian Dr Haasbroek still makes regular contributions to newspapers.
