Prof. HO de Waal

HO de Waal retired from the University of the Free State (UFS) in January 2017 but is still supervising postgraduate studies as an affiliated professor.

His professional career started in 1975 at the Glen Agricultural Research Institute and in 1986 he obtained a Ph. D (Agric) in Animal Nutrition at the University of Stellenbosch. Since 2000, HO broadened his interest in the large African predators and in 2004 he was a co-founder of the Canis-Caracal Programme (CCP) at the UFS.

The CCP endeavours to develop management strategies to mitigate the negative effects of predation by mesopredators on livestock farms and wildlife ranches.
