The focal point of this year’s International Women’s day campaign under the theme #EachforEqual is to accentuate the importance of equality. “An equal world is an enabled world. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender-equal world”.

In celebration of Women’s Day, the Art Bank of South Africa curated and presented We’ve been here, an exhibition of selected artworks by contemporary female artists from 1 to 31 August 2019. Women’s Day marks the anniversary of the Women’s March of 1956 when about 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the carrying of pass books.
Oliewenhuis Art Museum is giving honour to the life and work of an incredible artist,Karin Jaroszynska (1934-2014). Oliewenhuis holds 20 artworks of Jaroszynska in its permanent collection.Most of the works, including the Helsinki-series,were part of a generous donation by the art collector and philanthropist FernandF. Haenggi to Oliewenhuis in 2006; the remainder were purchased by Oliewenhuis. Her work- surrealist, playful and somewhat mysterious- shows Jaroszynska’s extraordinary talent and artistic integrity.
