Mike Mostovski

Dr Mike Mostovski (aka Mike Van der Brug) has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Indago and the language editor for a popular magazine Culna, both published by the National Museum, in September 2023.

Mike’s research interests lie in the field of the Mesozoic palaeontology and entomology, with sporadic excursions into neighbouring pastures. He received his PhD in palaeontology in 1998 from the Paleontological Institute (Moscow). Shortly after completing his postdoctoral project at the Zoological Museum, Cambridge University, he joined the Natal Museum in 2003 as Chief Curator and later as Assistant Director for Natural Sciences at the museum until 2014. Since then, he works primarily as a Curator of Diptera at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, occasionally reading invertebrate palaeontology and biostratigraphy for undergraduates at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Westville). During his scientific career, Mike has authored or co-authored over 70 research papers, including two book chapters, supplemented by technical reports and practical manuals for students.

Mike previously served as a subject editor for the Paleontological Journal, Editor-in-Chief for African Invertebrates and the Israel Journal of Entomology, and is currently a Desk Editor for the European Journal of Taxonomy.
