Zoya A. Yefremova

Zoya A. Yefremova obtained her PhD in Entomology from Institute of Evolutionary Morphology and Ecology of Animals of the Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, in 1985, and DSc from Zoological Institution of the Russian Academy of Science, St. Petersburg, in 1998. From 1991–2011, she taught Invertebrate Zoology, Entomology and Biogeography at Ulyanovsk State University and Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, Russia, where she became a full professor in 2000. In 1999–2000, she was an Academic Visitor to Natural History Museum, London, and Imperial College at Silwood Park, Ascot, Berkshire, UK.

In 2011, she became a curator of parasitic wasps (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, Tel Aviv University, Israel. Zoya’s research focuses primarily on taxonomy, biogeography, fauna and ecology of the Eulophinae, Eutiinae and Tetrastichinae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Eulophidae). Being a passionate field worker, Zoya spent long months collecting in Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Laos, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, as well as in Ethiopia, Mali and Kenya. During her scientific career, Zoya has authored or co-authored over 170 research articles and six book chapters. What she may particularly be proud of is that none among dozens of new species, which she described from far and wide, has ever been synonymised!
