During April 2016 Dr Bart de Graaff, Dutch historian and writer, and documentary photographer Mr Geert Snoeijer, visited the Museum to discuss the Vêrlander temporary exhibition to be hosted at the Museum from November 2016 to January 2017. This exhibition forms part of the Dutch Diaspora project and is a celebration of cultural diversity. For more than two years Bart and Geert visited ethnic minorities in South Africa and Namibia, focusing on the Khoi-Khoin people, photographing them and documenting their history and present living conditions. This exhibition comprises the South African and Namibian part of the project, but also includes portraits and quotes of descendants of 17th and 18th century Dutch seafarers in Indonesia and Australia. The exhibition is scheduled to be opened by the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Her Excellency Ms Marissa Gerards, on 24 November.
