National Museum CEO, Sharon Snell, congratulated Dr Nico Avenant for this prestigious recognition as the author of the most cited paper. The paper was published in Integrative and Comparative Biology ( ICB ), one of the most highly respected and cited journals in the field of biology.
According to Exaly Dr Avenant’s 2017 paper has recently been identified as the ‘1st most cited paper in Integrative and Comparative Biology (2017).’ The journal has an impact factor 3.740. He was also identified as the 3rd most cited author of the group of authors. Following ResearchGate: ‘RG Score = 26.90 (h-index = 21); Research interest 1305; work cited in 1377 publications’
Nico is a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated scientist and a Research Associate of the Centre for Environmental Management (CEM), University of the Free State (UFS). He is a small mammal ecologist with extensive field experience, working on a wide variety of rodents and their predators. Nico joined the National Museum in 1995. He collaborates on national and international research projects, and lectures to and supervises both undergraduate and post-graduate students. He has conducted research over a wide area in Southern Africa, at the Prince Edward Islands, and in Cambodia.
