In September, Dr Mike Bates spent three days at the Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria examining preserved specimens of egg-eating snakes and plated lizards for museum projects.

Mike presented a paper entitled “A new species of dragon lizard from Swaziland and South Africa”, co-authored by Dr Edward Stanley (Florida Museum of Natural History, Gainesville, U.S.A.).
The Department of Entomology hosted a visit by Laban Njoroge from the National Museums of Kenya in Nairobi in June. Laban’s visit was mainly to view the collection facilities in the Department, especially the mosquito collection.
Cliffie Barnes, Amy Goitsemodimo and Jacob Tsomela attended the launch of the book on Customary law of Succession and Genealogy of the Bakoena ba Mopeli Kingship Royal Family at the Basotho Cultural Village in August.
