Mural art is an ancient tradition that was practised in most parts of the world. Well known examples include works of Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Pietro Perugino and others, displayed in churches, museums and other historical sites in Europe, particularly in Italy.

Dr Lloyd Rossouw, Head of the Archaeology Department, attended the 23rd biennial conference of the Society of Africanist Archaeologists in Toulouse, France, at the Université Jean Jaurès from 26 June to 2 July.

Dr Lizel Hugo-Coetzee attended the 8th symposium of the European Association of Acarologists (EURAAC) in Valencia, Spain in July. There were 140 delegates from 33 countries.
